Visited the Sonoma Permit office today. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and helped us right away! We did not have an appointment, and waited less than 5 minutes to be greeted by Jake. He was also very friendly, and helped us complete required forms, scans, and explained future requirements. A surprisingly 100% positive experience in a governmental administrative office! So refreshing in this now self service/ impersonal world of ours to still experience excellence in customer service! Thank you Jake!

We have had a great experience as a small nonprofit looking to develop some parcels. They have been knowledgeable, kind/helpful, and professional. When i think of government working well, this is one example that stands out.

I’m editing my review from 1 star to 3 now that they’ve adapted the SoCo Report app it appears they’ve entered the 21 century. I had to report a known violation and illegal dwelling and they responded in minutes! I have an appointment with an inspector Nathan Peacock next week. Great job! If all goes well I will edit again and comment.

Lady answering the calls at the front is rude and seems to just forward your calls to another dept. Trying to call back but now no one is answering. It seems like having good customer service now and days is too much to ask for. Dislike the fact that people working for the city or county feel so entitled.

I’ve been going to the Sonoma county building department for some years now and every time I leave, I’m either stressed out or angry beyond belief. This place is an absolute mess. Get it together hire staff or better yet staff who actually know what they’re talking about. All we are trying to do is build homes in Sonoma County for people that need them and this department makes it so incredibly stressful it’s beyond belief.

I find that it can be a bit challenging to reach a person. Once you do, they are very helpful and friendly. Be patient! They are working really hard and incredibly swamped. They will get you through the process
